August 2008
Well, as far as Mummy Looks Fab news in concerned, we have finally taken delivery of the Evita stocks you have all been waiting for. Check out the site for some other new additions and don't hesitate to give us a shout if you can't find what you need.
August 2008 also sees the start of World breastfeeding week which we will be celebrating by breastfeeding even harder!
http://worldbreastfeedingweek.org/
Joking aside, Sam has set herself a personal challenge of breastfeeding publicly as often as possible and making a mental note of anyone that even notices.
So far she has managed it on a bench in a graveyard, in the middle aisle of tables in Brighton Carluccios, in front of her husband's grand parents, in the children's section of the local library (whilst sitting on a bookshelf shaped like a train) and by the side of a swimming pool.
Frankly, it was Sam doing the staring to try and see if anyone noticed. She chose the library as if anyone is going to notice and comment, it will be other children ("My mummy has her boobies out"), but no-one batted an eyelid. The baby even got cooed at whilst feeding in Carluccios as the hapless passer by had no idea she was feeding until it was too late to withdraw the imminent head tickle (Seren's, not Sam's). All of this was done without the aid of a poncho (in this heat?!?), muslin over the shoulder (or muslim as her toddler likes to call them), or large corregated screen between her and the rest of the world.
Hooray for breastfeeding tops! We hope you are breastfeeding confidently and happily wherever you are and whatever you are wearing.
July 2008
Bonjour all you breastfeeding folk. How are you enjoying the lovely weather...?
We are thinking of branching in to selling breastfeeding anoraks...a niche market perhaps but important none the less! As my friend who loves to jog says - There is no such thing as bad weather...only bad clothes. This would be good advice if I wasnt so sleep deprived that sometimes I even forget to put pants on....who has got time to remember a coat?!
This month we have been choosing the designs for the Autum / Winter collections and the themes are foxy and nautical as far as we can tell. Now you are all having a vivid mental picture of a breastfeeding woman dressed in a low cut diving suit but nothing could be further from the truth!
Our designers are branching in to much slinkier fabrics in gorgeous deep reds and petwer greys and there is a definite nod to Yves Saint Laurent and his ubiquitous French riviera style with some lovely, floaty stripey tops (Normally we say NO to stripes but these are dainty and pretty). They wont be available for a couple of months but we are looking forward to their arrival.
In the mean time it will be onward and upward with the Summer collections and hopefully we will soon get some lovely weather to make the most of them!
On the baby front, Seren has just had her immunisations - we both cried.
The nurse looked at me like I was crackers and then realised that I probably was after NO sleep. It didn't help that she was late for her feed (Seren, not the nurse), so as soon as the deed was done and she had stopped crying long enough to close her mouth in between screams (as opposed to just issuing the one continuous silent scream - you know the one where you wait and wait and then it comes and your eardrums shatter), we got on with feeding and soon all was well.
I know I would say this, but I was very grateful for my Lyra top as I could pop out each boob in turn in the surgery and no-one was any the wiser. All I needed was some kind of hood for my face so that all the life-hardened receptionists didnt have to watch me sob quietly on the baby's head for making her cry....Ho Hum. Another day in paradise! :-)
I hope all you new mums out there are enjoying it and able to laugh about it all as well as cry! Preferably not at the same time. That looks really mad.
Bon Courage and Happy Breastfeeding!
Late June 2008
Hello again everyone!
So, whats new with us?
Well, Brighton Baby Expo was a huge success (Thank criminy). We met loads of customers, put names to faces and got loads of useful feedback about what stresses you out most about breastfeeding in public. (Its still stretchmarks, love handles and finally nipple flashing - in that order).
Myself and Seren made it thought the day unscathed and at one point tried to use the breastfeeding room but it was too busy so ironically, had to sit outside to breastfeed. We are still composing the strongly worded letter of complaint to ourselves about the lack of available chairs :-). We also managed to make idiots of ourselves reporting a "poo-disaster" that appeared to have occurred at the front of the stand. Only to discover, after we had summonsed the cleaners, that it was in fact chocolate brownie, and not a dirty protest from one of our competitors....You would think we would be able to tell the difference between chocolate and poo by now....doesnt bode well for Easter at Mummy Looks Fab HQ.
Apart from all that, it was a really brilliant day and we can't wait until next year! (Better start planning now....)
On the home front, Mummy Looks Fab is having a major overhaul of the IT systems next week so it might take a few days to come back to any e-mail queries we get. We are still taking orders and they will be dispatched no later than July 1st, but please bear with us on anything else as hopefully we will be more efficient and sleek as a result of this small burst of activity.
I am taking the opportunity to go and stay at a Featherdown Farm in Leicestershire so that baby Seren can tell her baby-friends that her rotten parents made her spend her first holiday ever in a canvas tent without electricity or hot water....Seren's big brother will be in seventh heaven and rest assured, I have a credit card and the number of a local spa if everyone goes native and I can't cope....
So provided we don't crash altogether and I manage to find my way home again we should be up and running as "normal" for the first week in July......See you then and in the mean time, happy breastfeeding!
Early June 2008
Hello everyone,
Arrrggggggghhhhhhhhh.
There. That's better.
So its two days to go and are we ready!?! We went to the press launch on Thursday and had our photos taken for the local papers. Despite getting up at 5am and starting to prepare to leave the house by 11am, I still managed to turn up with un-brushed hair, no make-up and no big shades to hide it all behind. At one point, as my toddler was being dragged round for yet another action shot, he looked up and said "Mummy, I have lost my smile...." and Seren screamed so hard through most of it that there are a number of duff shots of all the other mums looking anxiously at Seren's pram instead of at the camera.
Still! At least we got there. And home again. On the right day.
Hopefully we will be slightly better prepared for the show itself on Sunday. Check us out on http://www.brightonbabyexpo.co.uk/ and we will hopefully see you there. We have some new styles at exclusive show prices that have not yet been put on the site, and we will also be giving away a free Breast Buddies breastfeeding reminder bracelet with every purchase (RRP £4.95). I have been using one since Seren was born and it has saved my life, and my boobs, on numerous occasions. http://www.breast-buddies.info/
So, thats it from us until the big day. Watch out for an un-brushed, un-made up, bedraggled looking woman with two screaming children in tow and you should find the stand!
Happy Breastfeeding from all at Mummy Looks Fab and hopefully see you on June 8th!
